From the Perspective of a Physical Soul

May your familia say your name
And write it down in stone for all eternity

May they put up their altar and add your picture
Right at the front for everyone to see you
Sonriendo bright and happy just as the last time they ever saw you

May the desierto remember your footprints
And the Bravo remember your arms
And the Bestia remember your hands
And Las Patronas remember your grateful eyes

May your bones don't go missing in the falls created by the ones
Pouring gallons of clear agua over the sand
Only because they can't stand
The thought of you ever tasting that

May you not remain a John or Jane forever
We all know that it's not your name

May everyone scream for justice
En inglés o en español
Que todos puedan gritar justicia

May the cempasúchil and the velas light your way back home from
The Mictlán
The Xibalba
The other side
Del otro lado
A donde te fuiste y ya jamás regresaste

May you be sure and certain
That below here we're still fighting
That below here we remember
That below here we refuse
To forgive and forget
How they shared around your picture
Claiming pain or claiming laughter
How they claimed your muerte and your body
And your hija in your arms
And wore it proud on their pages like a token of good luck

May they never find their pleasure
In watching you die over and over and over
And over
As they scroll and scroll away and away

May the Virgen y Dios y los Santos
Watch over you on your way wherever
Or whoever you were thinking of when
El Sol and el hambre burned you down

May your foto remain engraved in the soil
May the trees grow strong from it
May the wind blow through their leaves and
May your familia hear them call your name
